Revit Tags Rotate with Component - Some Do & Some Don't!
Editor’s note: This post was originally published on RevitIQ's blog and re-published here with permission.
Revit Tags are such a Powerful tool for annotating elements within your project. They make life so much easier when dealing with changes. They provide consistency with your annotations and save time typing repetitive information. I like them so much I try to ONLY use tags and ditch text notes altogether!
But recently I had a frustrating time with some Foundation Tags which would not Rotate/Align with the Foundations.
REVIT TAGS ROTATE WITH COMPONENT
In all Tags, you have the option to have them rotate and align with their element. We do this within the Family Editor by ensuring “Rotate with Component” is checked under Properties.
HOWEVER….
As you can see in the Structural Foundation Tag example above, not all tags respect the “Rotate with component” Checkbox!
This quirk has been around for a long time and you might have come across this issue before. Some Tags DO and Some Tags DO NOT rotate with component.
To try and make things a bit clearer for us, I have compiled a list of Revit Tags that DO and DO NOT rotate with component:
Revit Tags that DO rotate with component:
Structural Framing Tags
Wall Tags
Curtain Wall Tags
Rebar Tags
Door Tags
Window Tags
Railings Tags
Stair Tags
Ramp Tags
Property Boundary
Property Line Segments
Revit Tags that do NOT rotate with component:
Structural Column Tags
Structural Foundation Tags
Generic Model Tags
Floor Tags
Detail Component Tags
Ceiling Tags
Roof Tags
Furniture Tags
Casework Tags
Specialty Equipment Tags
Curtain Panel Tags
To get around this problem, I modeled the Wall Foundation as a Concrete Beam. This allowed the Tag to be aligned because Structural Framing Tags DO rotate with component.
Not always Ideal, but still better than using Text!
