Friday Feature - April 20th Edition

In this edition we're showcasing 3D models by Grayne, MASA Architectural Canopies, and Sustaine Fertilizers.  We've also gathered projects from Hacker Industries, Tubelite Inc, CityScapes, Inc, Diadem USA, Inc., Interstate Brick, JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, and Pyrok, Inc.

3D Model Highlights

Grayne - Plain Sawn Shingle

Grayne engineered composite shingles incorporate the subtle color gradations and variations in grain of plain-sawn shingles, imparting the striking look of true cedar from every angle. Sharp, crisp edges and easy-to-follow, dual-offset installation add to the authenticity. Unlike real cedar, Grayne shingles are moisture-proof and protected from the elements, so they won't curl, warp or even fade over time. In ten years, they'll still look like new.

Alumiframe is a versatile product than can be detailed with custom lettering for storefront use, or can be shaped to handle industrial applications.

Sustane Fertilizers - Golf Greens

A broad range of organic fertilizers designed and developed for the professional landscape and architectural applications.

Project Highlights

Hacker Industries - NordHaus Luxury Apartments

Project developer, Weis Builders, chose KMAC, Inc. to install the floor underlayments and sound control mats needed to achieve the IIC and STC sound ratings that luxury apartments demand. In the mid-rise structure, KMAC installed 105,000 sq. ft. of FIRM-FILL® High Strength Gypsum Underlayment and 60,000 sq. ft. of FIRM-FILL® SCM-250 sound control mat. FIRM-FILL® SCM® is installed on the subfloor to improve impact noise, while FIRM-FILL® gypsum underlayments are installed over the SCM to dampen airborne sound and provide a flat surface for finished floor coverings. For this project, the flooring used is ceramic tile and wood-style flooring. FIRM-FILL® products are listed in 116 fire rated designs and carry a Class-A fire rating under ASTM E84, a test used by regulatory agencies.

Tubelite Inc. - Chicago Shakespeare Theater

Chicago-based glazing contractor Northern Glass Inc. installed 5,000 square feet of Tubelite’s 400SS Series four-side, structurally glazed, aluminum curtainwall. In addition, they used Tubelite’s 400 Series standard curtainwall on the main entrance, and 14000 I/O Series storefront on the vestibule and second floor balcony terrace. The curtainwall and storefront systems were finished by Linetec in Class I clear anodize. Bone White painted finishes were applied to Tubelite’s Narrow Stile Standard Doors and Medium Stile Therml=Block® Doors.

CityScapes, Inc. - Trek Bicycle Shop

Bicycle expert retailer, Trek, reached out to CityScapes™ to design a custom size dumpster enclosure for their Columbus, Ohio store. An 11’D x 23’W screening system was ordered by the company to surround the trash containers in their parking lot.

Installation of this project was challenged by a 6” slope in the existing concrete pad. To level the screen walls, footers of progressing height were added to the posts on one side. In addition, Trek requested only one set of gates versus the standard set of two for such a large enclosure. To meet their order, custom 10’W gates were built to accommodate the wide opening; the first of this size.

The DRS-Standard self-stabilized safety railing was specified at the APLHA PARK project in Sopron, Hungary in 2008, since it meets the IBC code, and reduced the hazard of a leaking roof by not penetrating the membranes.

Interstate Brick - Alta View Elementary

Alta View Elementary is a 2 story replacement school built on the existing playfields of the former building for Canyons School District. Because of the slope accross the site the building steps in 2 locations, which causes the building to nestle into the site.

There are 3 colors of masonry used throughout the project, both load bearing and veneer; Mocha, Platinum & Pewter.

Metal panel and board formed concrete become the accent exterior materials, which both can been seen in several locations in the interior of the building.

Working on a tight budget, the construction team forged an energy-efficient 14,000 square foot plan to maximize daylight and provide occupant comfort in Texas’ summertime temperatures which exceed 100 degrees. Additionally, these same extreme temperatures dictated that exterior products be durable and reliable, in addition to beautiful.
